Repentance: A Dying Art

Somebody, somewhere in our area is teaching a bad news version of the Good News. It’s weak, without any power, without any authority, and it allows for all kinds of ungodliness to go unanswered. I’m willing to bet it’s in your area, too.

It’s that repentance-free “gospel,” that one that says the Lord is a liar and didn’t mean it when he was talking all of that holiness stuff. Its the one that allows all types of sinners into God’s New Jerusalem because they asked Jesus to take up residence in their hearts. Read closely: Jesus stands at the door and knocks, but his message is “Repent.”

Surely he didn’t really mean “Go and sin no more.” Obviously he didn’t mean “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.” Clearly, he wasn’t serious when he says there will be some folks he numbers with the unbelievers because they were “Workers of iniquity” in this life. I’m reminded of the serpent in the garden who told Eve the very same thing. The Lord doesn’t mean it when he speaks.

No, Longview gang members, when Tupac told you “There’s a heaven for a G,” he lied just like his father, the devil. No, you may not continue in sin and go to heaven. I don’t care what your pastor learned in seminary; he’s regurgitating weak nonsense into your mouths. Repent or perish. It’s holiness or hell. Is that too harsh?

A “thug” told me last night he wants to build a church with money from his promotion of unrighteousness in the form of drunken, booty dancing parties. Well, go ahead and build it if you want, but God won’t be showing up for the opening. It’s disgusting that this man is encouraged by whatever false gospel got him thinking he’s saved to begin with. If I find out whose convert he is, I’ll be paying them a visit.

To all you pastors, preachers…whatevers…teaching that turning from sin is a “discipleship” issue rather than a salvation issue, be ashamed. Read your Bibles and stop taking people to hell with you. The only people who would preach such a useless message are those who have never had to deal with it on an evangelistic level. If they were to see the damage it causes they would (hopefully) stop feeding people this trash.

God commands all men everywhere to repent. Here’s a message from Paul:

“For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you” – 1 Thessalonians 4:7,8

God does not intend for anyone to continue sinning, but to be pure. That’s difficult to comprehend because most aren’t living purely. They haven’t experienced purity of heart for themselves, so how could they preach it to others?

Preacher, if you think for one minute that you won’t be held accountable for preaching such stupidity and utter disregard for scripture, you are dead wrong. Preach repentance because, without it, no one will see God. Your flock will burn in hell and yourself along with them if you aren’t careful. Christ offers security and assurance only to those who abide in him. To the disobedient, he offers a sword.

God wants to “Bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness (Acts 3:26),” and what a blessing it is to have received the grace of God that changes men undeniably! The message that Jesus saves men “In their sins” rather than “from their sins” is indefensible and evil to its core. It is the number one hindrance to the Good News of grace in this country.

Be a good steward, friends. “Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.” If you are a saint of God, teach like one. Make disciples and don’t compromise. There won’t be a single unrepentant sinner in heaven. Make sure your flock knows that.

In Christ,
Cody

    1. Amen. No repentance, no admission. I preach the grace Paul preached in Titus 2. It is efficacious to salvation because it works itself out by instructing us in godliness. Plain and simple Bible doctrine. Praise God.
